Kerry Thacker

Kerry and his family have owned and maintained a farm on Banks Peninsula for generations. Preserving history on the land, respecting Maori forerunners of the whenua and caring for it are strong focuses for this talented woodworker.

Kerry is now semi-retired on the farm, supporting the next generation to take on the mantle for this special piece of land.

During the winter months when the demands of the farm slow down, he enjoys creating bespoke pieces from wood found on the farm. High on the property stand the remains of an ancient forest of native totara and other species. Kerry fashions stools and bowls for sturdy everyday use, each piece telling a story of an earlier time and place.
