Intrigue lies within the ambiguity between shapes and areas of focus
Australian born artist Frances Malcolm lives in the beautiful Banks Peninsula with her husband and three children. After moving to New Zealand in 2005, Frances studied a Fine Arts Degree at the University of Canterbury. She later studied a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Secondary) going on to work in local high schools as a qualified arts teacher. Frances has worked with a range of public and private students, however has dedicated the last few years to focus on developing her own body of work.
Frances captures the essence of New Zealand’s wildlife and flora through her unique macro oil paintings. The intrigue lies within the, “ambiguity between shapes and areas of focus.” Frances says “I see beauty in the detail,” building her work in layers, abstracting and defining the delicate details of the subject onto the canvas.
